When you chose to travel by a plain, you are protected by special laws and regulations - Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 February 2004 establishing common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights, and repealing Regulation (EEC) No 295/91 and Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air - Montreal, 28 May 1999.
During the last years the EU has paid a special attention to protection of air passengers, thus on 11 February 2005 the EC Regulation, was passed, laying down very many issues related with air transport.
In accordance with the EC Regulation the operating air carrier shall ensure that at check-in a clearly legible notice containing the following text is displayed in a manner clearly visible to passengers: "If you are denied boarding or if your flight is cancelled or delayed for at least two hours, ask at the check-in counter or boarding gate for the text stating your rights, particularly with regard to compensation and assistance".
